Akismet False Positives

By rmjvol

I’ve got a sports forum that has implemented blog-type pingback & trackback features but, for whatever reason, Akismet has been treating all my trackbacks as spam. After researching Akismet False Positives, I found that Akismet does a great job most of the time but there are plenty of reports of Akismet labeling good blog posts as spam.

This post can help you to research the false positive problem and I’ve got a solution for you.

Research

The best info I found on Akismet false positives was over at Maxpower. Kirk Montgomery has a good article about why you might be in Akismet jail with tips on how to get out

He’s got a 2nd bit on what you could do to others with this knowledge.

False Positive Solution

In the spirit of Kirk’s suggestions, I’m here to help you if you’ve been unjustly accused by Akismet of making spam comments.

Post a non-spam response or trackback here and I’ll take a look at both your post and your website/blog. If it’s clear to me that you’ve been unjustly labeled as a spammmer, I’ll tag your comment as not spam in Akismet. Once I’ve done that for you, I’ll send a trackback from my sports forum and ask that you allow it, making sure that Akismet knows that we’re not spam.
